Dubai summers are legendary – scorching temperatures, relentless sun, and heat that can make even the most seasoned residents wilt. While we crank up the AC and seek refuge indoors, our cars, unfortunately, aren’t so lucky. And if there’s one component in your vehicle that truly suffers in the extreme heat, it’s the car battery.
Don’t let the summer sun leave you stuck. Here’s your ultimate battery checklist to keep your vehicle cool, calm, and cruising all season long.
Why is summer being brutal on car batteries?
Most people think winter is tough on batteries—but in Dubai or other hot climates, heat is the real battery killer.
> Accelerated Chemical Reactions: High temperatures speed up the chemical processes within the battery, causing it to work harder and degrade faster.
> Fluid Evaporation: The heat causes the electrolyte solution inside the battery to evaporate more quickly, especially in older, non-sealed batteries. Lower fluid levels expose the battery plates, leading to damage.
> Increased Corrosion: Heat can create corrosion on battery terminals and internal components, impeding electrical flow.
> Overworking the AC: Your car’s air conditioning system works overtime in Dubai’s summer, putting an extra load on the electrical system and, consequently, the battery.
Your Summer Battery Health Checklist
Follow these steps to keep your battery healthy and your summer drives stress-free:
1. Check the Battery Age
Batteries typically last up to 2–4 years. If yours is pushing 3+ years, have it tested before the heat takes it out for good.
Pro Tip: Look for a sticker on the battery with a date code. If it’s older than you expected, it might be time to replace it.
2. Inspect for Corrosion
Pop your hood and examine the battery terminals. Do you see any white, blue, or green powdery substance? This is corrosion.
Quick Fix: Clean terminals with a mix of baking soda and water, using a toothbrush and gloves. Rinse and dry well.
3. Test the Battery Voltage
A healthy battery should read around 12.6 volts or higher when fully charged. Anything under 12.4V might be a sign it’s not holding charge properly.
Tip: We offer free battery testing—use it before that summer trip.
5. Look at the Battery Case
Bulging, cracked, or swollen battery case? That’s a red flag—caused by heat and overcharging. Replace it immediately to avoid leaks or a total failure.
6. Park Smart
Whenever possible, park in shaded or covered areas. Direct sunlight and engine heat under the hood accelerate battery wear.
Covered parking = cooler battery + happier engine.
7. Unplug Accessories
Leaving phone chargers, dash cams, or other electronics plugged in drains your battery faster—especially in the heat. Unplug them when not in use.
